Application phase 2017 is on

Designers and manufacturers can enter their products for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 – one of the largest product competitions in the world. For more than 60 years, it has offered a fair and independent design benchmark.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design awards objects of high design quality. In 2016, only 1.5 percent of all entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. It goes to the best products of a category like the IKEA bike “SLADDA”.

“Under the Sign of the Circle” presents Red Dot awarded innovations from Japan

Entitled “Under the Sign of the Circle”, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents an exhibition of Japanese products until 19 March 2017. From electronic drums to extravagant packaging to origami chair: Around 100 exhibits invite visitors to discover Japanese design.

The Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2017 offers designers, companies and universities from all over the world the opportunity to enter their product visions and put their whole creative potential to the test. The Early Bird registration phase runs until 31 January.

Eexhibition on Red Dot awarded product benchmarks from Taiwan and abroad at the Red Dot Design Area Taipei

Until 23 April 2017, the Red Dot Design Area Taipei presents the exhibition “Juxtapositions: Red Dot awarded Product Benchmarks from Taiwan and Abroad”. On show are Taiwanese and international objects which were granted a prize in the Red Dot Award: Product Design. With a view to design, the presentation illustrates where Taiwan is positioned in the world.

Looking back on the design highlights of the year

2016 was again an eventful and successful year for Red Dot that was characerised by numerous high points. Those include the Red Dot Gala in Essen, Germany, the awards ceremony of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept in Singapore, and the honouring of the laureates of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design in Berlin.

Only a few weeks ago, an international jury of renowned design experts has examined and evaluated every single work of the 6,468 submissions to the “red dot award: communication design 2011”. But only 80 works were awarded the “red dot: best of the best”, which is an appreciation for highest design quality. They are the best communication designs of their category.

This year, the “red dot: junior prize” goes to the communication designer Martina Morth from Dortmund, Germany. Her thesis "Aufschwung durch Ableben" (“Economic revival through death”), which visualises a highly unusual and likewise macabre topic, was awarded.

In March 2011, Japan was shocked by three catastrophes at the same time: The strong earthquake, the destructive tsunami and the resulting nuclear disaster caused a severe crisis for the country. Even though these occurrences already date back five months in continuously faster moving times, the expressions of concern do not end. Now, artists, graphic designers and art enthusiasts have originated a charity initiative, aiming at raising the victim’s hopes.

On 7 October 2011, the most creative minds in communication design meet in Berlin: for the first time, the "red dot award: communication design" will be celebrated in Germany`s capital city. An international jury of renowned design experts awarded 608 red dot and 80 "red dot: best of the best" distinctions for outstanding creative works during a multi-day selection process.
