The Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2017 offers designers, companies and universities from all over the world the opportunity to enter their product visions and put their whole creative potential to the test. The “Standard” submission phase runs until 22 March.

At the heart of the Red Dot Award: Product Design is its jury. Soon, some 40 recognised experts from around the world will gather again in order to test, discuss and assess every single entry in an evaluation process lasting several days. Part of the panel in 2017 will be Gordon Bruce again.

Outstanding design and its makers: the A’tolan House
Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design awards objects of high design quality. In 2016, only 1.5 percent of all entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. The Create + Think Design Studio was awarded this distinction for the Interior Design of the A’tolan House.

“BIKE | DESIGN | CITY”: exhibition with Red Dot awarded products in Switzerland
With the exhibition “BIKE | DESIGN | CITY”, Gewerbemuseum Winterthur in Switzerland takes a look at the wide variety of bike scenes in evidence today, explores cycling’s rich development potential for urban transport and examins some possible future scenarios. Until 30 July 2017, Red Dot winners will be on show, among others.

The registration phase of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 runs only until 8 February. The laureates use the winner label for their communications and profit from further “Winners‘ Benefits”, among others the presentation of the award-winning products in the Red Dot App.

Entitled “Under the Sign of the Circle”, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents an exhibition of Japanese products until 19 March 2017. From electronic drums to extravagant packaging to origami chair: Around 100 exhibits invite visitors to discover Japanese design.

This year the “red dot: client of the year” title of honour will be awarded for the second time in the history of the “red dot award: communication design”. In 2010, red dot bestowed the title on AUDI AG, which shapes global markets through its investments in creative and innovative communication work. In 2011, the “company with the four rings” succeeded in defending the sought-after title.

In order to carry the idea of design around the globe, red dot goes on tour again and again. In its luggage is always a selection of prize winning designs which are presented in an exclusive ambience. At the moment, the internationally known red dot stops in Singapore. The Greater Asia Region, which shares a tremendous reservoir of creativity and innovative ideas, is exactly the right place for showcasing awarded design achievements.

The year 2011 is under the banner of the automobile: applied for a patent as a gasoline-driven motor waggon (“Motorwagen Nummer 1”) by the German engineer Carl Benz, today the car looks back on 125 years of history. Almost at the time another German engineer, Gottlieb Daimler, developed the world’s first four-wheeled motorcar together with the constructing engineer and business man Wilhelm Maybach. From then on, the car was on the road to victory.

Already for years, the Kuala Lumpur Design Week (KLDW) ranks among Malaysia’s most important series of events for the creative sector. Every year, students, up-and-coming talents and designers from all over the world come together, to socialise and to swap ideas on the latest trends in design. The festival consists of a series of events, conferences and exhibitions which deal with the creative industries and the underlying connections between innovation, production, and creativity.

“Design at the border – red dot awarded design from Germany and the Netherlands” illustrates in an impressive and unusual way the differences of Dutch and German designs. The exhibition shows, where they are complementary and how both countries can learn from each other, in order to go new ways together in the future.
On 21 September 2011, along with this joint project, red dot organised together with Design Cooperation Brainport Eindhoven a design & business workshop with the topic “Design as a value generator” at the Designhuis Eindhoven.
