Red Dot Award: Product Design
Winning the Red Dot opens the doors for manufacturers and designers to a worldwide network and offers exclusive options for communicating their success. The numerous winners’ privileges are the usage of the Red Dot winner label, the presentation of the product at Red Dot Online, in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, in the Red Dot App as well as at Red Dot 21, and the exhibition of the award-winning products in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, Germany.

Providing a wider platform for innovation
At the moment, up-and-coming talents, designers, companies and universities from all over the world have the opportunity to enter their design visions in the competition and put their whole creative potential to the test. 2015's best design concepts and prototypes will emerge from a total of 31 concept categories. These are deliberately wide to ensure limitless imagination. With the introduction of two new categories, designers are encouraged to think beyond the conventional list to define new innovations and explanations.

International communication design in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen
Smart apps, impressing posters or attention-attracting advertising films – all communication works which are on show in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, Germany, until 3 May 2015 have one thing in common: their award-winning design. The special exhibition “Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2014” presents the latest Red Dot awarded creative achievements from around the globe.

Taiwanese Design Faces
A special exhibition which focuses on the creative minds behind award-winning designs is presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei until 29 March 2015. “Taiwanese Design Faces” tells stories – about five Taiwanese designers. The presentation introduces the people who create innovative products, convince manufacturers to produce these, and who give advice and support during the whole development process, from the idea to the finished good.

The American entrepreneur Henry Ford once said: “Every object tells a story, if you know how to read it.” Inspired by this quote, the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story” grants exciting peeks behind the scenes of design and shows how award-winning design is characterised. Until 31 May 2015, visitors of the HKDI Gallery in Hong Kong can experience the exemplarily selection of designs from various living environments and discover what is hidden under the surface.

The jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 consists of 38 design experts of international repute. A particularly distinguished panel has been appointed in this anniversary year of 2015. This year, concentrated competence from the US enriches the Red Dot jury: Gordon Bruce and Dr. Thomas Lockwood are part of this year’s expert group.

Calling for entries for this year’s Red Dot Award: Design Concept. Companies, design studios, universities and designers alike from 63 countries submitted 4,791 entries of their best innovative ideas during the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2014. 2015's best design ideas and prototypes will emerge from a total of 31 concept categories. On 24 February 2015, the exhibition “Formosa Forms – Design trends in technology and lifestyle from Taiwan” was opened at the Munich Creative Business Week. Until 1 March 2015, the exhibition, which was commissioned by the Taiwan Design Center, Taipei, showcases about 100 elaborate exhibits which underline both the contrast and the symbiosis of tradition and modernity in Taiwanese design.

This year, 38 renowned specialists from all over the world guarantee with their expertise the high quality level of the Red Dot Award: Product Design as well as the expressiveness of the Red Dot seal. Every jury member pledges to a “Code of Honour” and is excluded from taking part in the competition. In addition, to avoid conflicts of interest, the jurors may not be employees of the manufacturing industry. The internationally esteemed design professionals, whose background allows them to consciously assess the special intercultural aspects of design, comprises new members and Red Dot experienced jurors, such as Manuel Alvarez Fuentes from Mexico, Dr. Luisa Bocchietto from Italy and Nils Toft from Denmark.

The branding of the Berlin branch of one of the most famous and largest advertising agencies in Germany may strike some as odd at first. Not “Scholz” but “Heiduk” was projected onto the imposing building facade in huge digital letters. But that was simply because it was the turn of Christin Heiduk, a consultant of the firm, to gain some exposure. In fact, in keeping with the “friends” credo of the legendary founder Jürgen Scholz, every employee got to enjoy the own 30 minutes of fame at one point.
