Cooperation with the Seoul Design Foundation: red dot and the Dongdaemun Design Plaza showcase jointly in the future
Since 1994, the red dot design award maintains excellent contacts and partnerships with South Korea. As founder of the “World Design Capital”, red dot CEO Prof. Dr. Peter Zec substantially contributed that the South Korean capital Seoul received this title in 2010. Vice versa, numerous Korean companies use the red dot label to position themselves on the European market or in the media. In the course of the ceremony of the “red dot award: product design 2011”, an extensive cooperation with the Seoul Design Foundation has been concluded.
More precisely, Jae-Jin Shim, CEO of the Seoul Design Foundation, and Prof. Zec agreed upon a collaboration regarding the Dongdaemun Design Plaza: As an elegant centre for design, fashion, leisure and retail, the tremendous building and park project will improve Seoul`s cityscape and will also set a commercial impulse. Due to the expertise red dot possesses with its design museum in Essen and all the international “red dot on tour” projects, joint exhibitions and design events can be organised in the future.
“It`s about the development of questions and topics that are relevant for the future of design as well as the future of society, shaped by design”, Prof. Peter Zec explained. “At red dot, we experience long-ranging trends in the fields of universal design, life science design and the sustainability of products for example. These important trends must be documented and presented accordingly – in this manner, chances of Asian and European markets will increase.”
