Unlike other design competitions, the red dot design award is judged on the product. This is a huge logistic feat, as all products registered are judged on location. In the past year alone, far in excess of 4,000 products were presented in purpose-leased halls for the judging phase. There they are inspected and tested by the jury teams.

Delivery of submissions
Dates for product submissions*: 23 January to 10 February 2012
Dates for self-assembly**: 25 January to 1 February 2012
Dates for motor vehicle    
(automobiles, buses, motorbikes etc. in the original): 23 February 2012, 8 a.m.

*   Products which have not to be assembled
** Products which have to be assembled in-house by you

Product delivery will only be accepted workdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Please make sure that you make the appropriate arrangements.

Delivery in the categories "Entertainment technology and cameras", "Communications" and "Computers and information technology":

We would appreciate if your products were delivered fully functional so that they could actually be operated at the adjudication and thus could be tested by the jury.

Please mark your package and the product itself using the labels sent to you. To make sure that your product can be delivered quickly, we ask that you inform your logistics company (courier, freight forwarder, etc.) of the PI code allocated to you.

We will store products that receive an award until the beginning of the special exhibition. This does not apply to products that participants set up themselves for judging or to products awarded an honourable mention. These products set up by participants themselves will be requested again prior to the special exhibition in agreement with the organiser. Products that have been awarded an honourable mention have to be collected within the given time as well.
