Professor Soon-in Lee becomes new Icsid president

Within its 27th General Assembly, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) announced its new President for the 2011-2013 term. The two-day proceedings were held in Taipei, Taiwan where the International Design Alliance (IDA) Congress took place for the first time.

In its more than 50 years of history, Professor Soon-in Lee, who had served on Icsid's Executive Board as a member for two terms (1999-2003) and most recently as President-Elect (2009-2011), is the first Icsid President from Korea. As the current President of the Seoul Design Center and expert on industrial design, Lee has worked closely with Icsid to promote better design in Korea and around the globe since his attending 22 years ago.

In his first address to the membership, the new President emphasised the strength of Icsid’s global membership and declared a special interest in working with developing nations, bringing in new membership and encouraging the development and use of socially responsible industrial design.

Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of red dot, welcomed the election of Professor Lee: “I’m glad that Soon-in Lee lends his expertise to Icsid as new President of the organization and that he is in this position now. As former Icsid President and now senator of the design association, I wish my successor great success and all the best for his term. Just like at Icsid, the aim of red dot is, and always will be, the international promotion of the best design achievements.”
