European Aluminium Awards 2012 - Application deadline ends 1 July
Designers, manufacturers, builders and constructors have until 1 July 2012 to apply for the European Aluminium Awards 2012. An international jury awards six distinctions in two categories in this special competition for Industrial Design & Engineering.
Only a few years ago, a German premium automobile company advertised their cars with chassis fully made of aluminium. The light metal lowered the vehicle’s weight while keeping high strength, similar to that of steel, through magnesium-, silicone- or other alloys. This, however, does not exhaust the application field for aluminium. For example, a specially coated aluminium tube is used in shower cabins. The excellent thermo conductivity of aluminium recovers the heat of the wastewater which is re-used, saving 50 per cent of energy during each shower.
Innovations like this are sought after in the eighth European Aluminium Award 2012. The international expert jury, headed by Professor Laurens Katgerman (Delft University of Technology) and Vito Oražem (Managing Director, Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen) accept submissions in the categories “Consumer Products” and “Industrial Products” until 1 July 2012. Designers, manufacturers, builders and constructors have the chance to win a distinction in the areas Design, Innovation, Transport & Automotive, Building & Construction, Machinery & Electronics and Production Techniques. Special prizes will be given for Rolling, Casting, Extrusion and Surface Treatment. Furthermore, the jury will give an “Overall Jury Award” for the entry with the most striking contribution to “Environment, Sustainability & Energy Efficiency”.
Young designers can participate in the so-called EXTRA prize. Motivated students, independent young designers and engineers under 30 (born on or prior to 1 January 1982) are called upon, to submit their creative ideas and new solutions until 1 July 2012 as well.
All entries will be promoted in the Award Pavilion at ALUMINIUM 2012 in Messe Düsseldorf from 9 – 11 October 2012 and directly shown after entering at the award website.
The European Aluminium Award is an initiative of the Dutch Aluminium Centre and is supported by the European Aluminium Association (EAA), the GDA – German Aluminium Association – and ALUMINIUM 2012.
