Special exhibition "Moving Materials" - inspiring materials in the red dot design museum
New materials inspire designers and architects to constantly develop new products, and promise consumers a better quality of life and living. From 3 until 29 July 2012, the red dot design museum presents “Moving Materials”, a special exhibition which shows a selection of materials offering possibilities that make sense and are sensuous at the same time.
“Moving Materials” is a travelling exhibition that has been developed in the framework of PROUD (People Researchers Organisations Using Design for co-creation and innovation).
Topics of the exhibition:
- Regenerating principles: repair and renewal
- Ingenious processing: new manufacturing methods
- Affinity people feel for products
- Strong lightweight materials
- Bringing down energy use
On 3 July 2012, the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen also hosts the seminar “Smart Materials for Design and Architecture“ at the red dot design museum, giving an insight into experiences and results in the field of smart materials.
PROUD (People Researchers Organisations Using Design for co-creation and innovation) is a European project with the objective to make Europe a better place by co-designing for all and by all. PROUD brings designers together with public organisations, businesses and user communities to experience the added value of design thinking and design, while working on innovative solutions for today’s real world problems. PROUD helps and supports designers to have the right facilities, knowledge and expertise to play this key role in innovating, improving and consolidating Europe.
“Moving Materials” is one of the activities in this respect, being a coproduction of Material Sense and the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. Besides Essen, the special exhibition will also be on show in Eindhoven, Lancaster, Kortrijk, Paris and Helsinki.
