Red Dot Edition introduces its publishing programme at the Frankfurt Book Fair

After last year`s successful premiere, the specialist publisher Red Dot Edition is part of the Frankfurt Book Fair again. From 8 – 12 October 2014, the stall G94 in Hall 4.1 provides an overview on the latest trends in product and communication design – an outline of works, which were awarded a Red Dot thanks to their high quality. With seating-accommodations, the newly designed trade fair booth invites visitors to stay and thus functions as a place for professional exchange. More »

Three questions to: Ran Amitai & Gilli Kuchik of Bakery Studio

The art of origami looks back at a hundred-year-old tradition in Asia. The skilful folding of paper transforms it into two- and three-dimensional sculptures of authentic appearance. This art served as a source of inspiration for the NOM (Nature of Material) furniture series, which was developed by Bakery Studio from Israel for Italian manufacturer Cappellini. More »

Innovative design studios present themselves at the Red Dot Forum in Xiamen

The “Xiamen International Design Business Week – Red Dot in China” promises global design achievements on the highest level. "Define Game Design" - Red Dot Award conference with game expert Daniel Budiman in Berlin

What is game design? Everything – that’s what Daniel Budiman, presenter of the TV show Game One, would say. But how can we even describe “everything”? By having renowned experts and industry gurus speak about their ideas and experiences relating to game design and inviting others to be part of the happening. Consequently, following on from last year’s success, Red Dot will present itself as a mediator for the creative industries once again in 2014 – with the conference “Define Game Design” at the Café Moskau in Berlin on 23 October in collaboration with Daniel Budiman. Functionality and ergonomics are important features for tools. To ensure a smooth working processes, for instance in assembly work, the equipment needs to be easy to handle but also versatile in use. For German manufacturer Wiha Werkzeuge, Thomas Schandelmeier developed a magazine bit holder with an innovative opening mechanism. Via an easy-to-operate pressure lock, the user receives the correct bit simply through the push of a button. The ergonomic magazine handle design is very compact but enables energy-saving, comfortable and effective screw fastening. More »

Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2014 - Creative highlights in Berlin

The dates for this year’s creative events by Red Dot in Berlin have been set. The design competition will be massively present in the Germany capital from 23 to 25 October as part of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2014. The long weekend will be devoted entirely to honouring this year’s winners. 7,096 projects from 49 countries were entered in the competition this year. More »

3 questions to: Ora-ïto

Inspired by nature, French designer Ora-ïto skilfully played with the patterns of human perception when creating the dining table of the same name for the manufacturer Roche Bobois. Connected to the ground by three spiralled arms, the round tempered glass top of the Ora-ïto table seems as if it were moving and spinning upon itself. In a symbiosis between visionary design and technological know-how the Ora-ïto emerged as a table of extraordinary beauty – a fascinating manifestation of motion in form that lures the senses. Fair for mobile free time: Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf begins

On 30 August 2014, the world`s biggest fair for motorhomes and caravans goes into its 53rd round in Düsseldorf/Germany – and it will be larger than ever.
