Huge interest in the red dot special exhibition "Schweiz ist Design" in Basel, Switzerland
This year, for the first time, red dot is featured at the renowned Swiss fair “muba” with an extensive special exhibition. On initiative of designer Andy Andresen and in cooperation with the red dot design museum, the “Messe Schweiz” presents a selection of Swiss red dot laureates from 2009 until 2012.
The “Mustermesse Basel” (muba) is looking back on a long tradition: The first fair already took place in 1917. Ever since, it offers participating companies the opportunity to present the latest trends from various fields of the retail sector. More than 300.000 annual visitors emphasise the importance of the muba and make it the second largest public fair in Switzerland. The country`s constant success at the “red dot award: product design” proves, that it is famous for creative product solutions and innovative design. Between 2009 and 2012, over 240 products by more than 150 Swiss companies and designers have been awarded with a red dot, the internationally renowned seal for outstanding design quality. At the moment, selected laureates present themselves and their products at the exhibition “Schweiz ist Design”.
On 22 February, the muba 2013 has been opened with huge media interest. Representatives from politics, economy and industry were exclusively guided through the fair and were informed on the importance of the red dot design award for the Swiss economy by Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot, and designer Andy Andresen. Among them were Dr. Ulrich Vischer (President of the Board MCH Group AG), Council Leader Dr. Guy Morin (Director of the Presidential Department of the canton Basel-Stadt) and Federal Councillor Alain Berset (Head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs). The delegation was impressed by the consequent functionality and elegant diffidence of Swiss design, which is made accessible to the public at the exhibition “Schweiz ist Design”.
A sock that improves the activity of the muscles. A mattress that prevents heat accumulation. A digital watch with a surface made of ceramics. A frameless window with invisible mountings and window frames. A modular small construction system for most versatile use in public space. A professional hot air device with intuitive operation using the “e-Drive” interface. All of those products from the different fields of life combine outstanding design with Swiss values.
Only until 3 March 2013, visitors of the muba can experience the way Swiss design convinces the international world of design with its combination of creativity and continuity.
