Red Dot Design Museum Essen
Exhibition "Communication+" by the Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2013 - Lenovo Design & User Experience Team

Suggestion for the weekend: Free guided tour in the Red Dot Design Museum

Almost everything is design; every product or poster, every interior decoration or website is designed. That is what visitors can learn in the Red Dot Design Museum in an exciting way. The house, which is located at UNESCO world heritage site Zollverein, invites design enthusiasts and all those who want to become it to a free guided tour of this year’s winners’ exhibition on Sunday, 25 August 2013 from 3 – 4 p.m.

Under the motto “Design on Stage”, the museum currently presents elegant pieces of jewellery, innovative consumer electronics or very shapely furniture by designers from all over the world. The exhibition showcases on two floors, what is state-of-the-art in international product design.

During their tour of the exhibition, visitors will discover award-winning innovations from various living environments and they will find out that they are surrounded by elaborate design around the clock. Touching and testing many of the objects is allowed, since they make good design and thus the quality of everyday products become experiencable.

Another item on the agenda of the public tour is the exhibition of the Red Dot: Design Team of the Year, which is in 2013 the Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo. “Communication+” is inspired by how our way of communication changed over a period of time – from a simple and traditional media like paper, into the latest advanced technology of today’s digital era. The impressive centrepiece is a sculpture seven metres high consisting of 6,000 sheets. It symbolises the tree as the base of paper and thus the origin of all communication.
