“Making a Difference / A Difference in Making” – 3D Printing exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen
Until 30 October 2016, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents the exhibition “Making a Difference / A Difference in Making”. The collection brings together pioneering 3D-printed works of art, design, engineering and science. The exhibition was curated by Marta Malé-Alemany, architect and recognized researcher in the field of digital fabrication technologies, and produced by Materialise, a 3D printing company based in Belgium. On Wednesday, 14 September 2016, a new Red Dot exhibition opened in France. During a reception at the Cité du Design in St. Etienne, “La valeur du design” (“The value of design”) was on show for the first time. Until 8 January 2017, Red Dot awarded products from France and around the world inform visitors about the merits and value of good design. They demonstrate that the term “design” goes way beyond the surface. More

It is not unusual for a designer to be less well known than the products he created. Tönis Käo was no exception. Born in 1940 in Saaremaa (Estonia), Käo chose Munich as his home. It was there that he came up with concepts whose realisation became possible decades later and which became extremely popular. He also designed products that everyone in Germany above the age of 40 is likely to be familiar with – even though the visionary designer himself did not become a household name until much later.
