The Red Dot Design Museum invites to free guided tours during the 24th colliery festival
This year, for the 24th time, UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein celebrates the huge colliery festival from 28 to 29 September 2013. Under the motto “1 world heritage / 1 district / 1 celebration” („ 1 Welterbe / 1 Bezirk / 1 Fest“), the industrial culture landscape presents a broad, exciting programme in which the Red Dot Design Museum Essen is also involved: besides a reduced entry fee of four euros during the weekend, it offers two free guided tours – for design fans and those who want to become it.
The hour and a half long tours of the former boiler house start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and provide interesting insights into the world of design. Visitors will be informed about current trends in international product design and experience it at close range, since touching and testing most of the objects is explicitly allowed. The participants of the free tours will gain a new awareness of design and observe their environment through new points of view.
Design plays an important role both in day-to-day life and on the international market. This is demonstrated in the largest exhibition of contemporary design, with around 2,000 exhibits on 4,000 square meters. From jewellery and accessories, to household helpers and consumer electronics – the award-winning products of the Red Dot Design Museum illustrate the connection of functionality and well-shaped design.
As the group size allows for a maximum of 25 participants, the Red Dot Design Museum kindly asks for previous registrations by phone on +49 (0) 201-301040 or via e-mail to museum(at)red-dot.de. The participation in the tours is free of charge, visitors only have to pay the reduced admission fee of four euros.
