Exciting guided tour for children: Journey of discovery in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen
On Sunday, 29 December 2013, children from 8 to 12 years go on a journey of discovery in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen. Thereby, they will meet products, which they know from their everyday life, but also innovative items which will astonish them. From 3 – 4 p.m., the guided tour offers tomorrow’s creative minds an overview of award-winning designs from about 45 nations and facilitates them with a sense for good design quality.
Children are surrounded by elaborately designed items twenty-four-seven: the alarm clock, which arouses them from sleep or the desk where they do their homework. They find some things exceptionally beautiful, friendly or easy to use. Why is that? Why are some products very good designed? And what is design?
During their tour of the former boiler house of Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, they will find the answers to these questions on their own. Touching and testing is very important, since good design quality becomes especially apparent in use. Thus, the children not only get introduced to the Red Dot Design Museum, but also learn in a comprehensive language how design has changed over the years and why the form of a fire extinguisher can be inspired by an elephant.
With their new experiences which the young visitors made in the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design, they will see many items in their everyday life through other eyes and they will know why thing are designed the way they are.
While the children go on the discovery tour, their parents can also explore the Red Dot Design Museum Essen. On five floors and an exhibition area of approximately 4,000 square meters, they can experience award-winning items in a different light. Thereby, the contrast of old and new, of current product culture and historic industrial architecture, makes the museum an exciting experience.
