Convincing taste - PepsiCo is Red Dot: Client of the Year 2014

• Significant title of honour for food and beverage corporation’s creative output
• PepsiCo Chief Design Officer Mauro Porcini to be at Red Dot Gala in Berlin
• “We’re honoured and thrilled”

It’s that time of year again - October 24th, the design industry will gather to celebrate the winners of the annual Red Dot Design Awards, honoring the best and brightest individuals and campaigns in international design. This year the ultimate prize for companies – “Red Dot: Client of the Year” – is awarded to PepsiCo for the corporation’s design ethos and output in 2014. PepsiCo garners nine awards total and marks the first time in Red Dot history that the “Red Dot: Client of the Year” designation will go to a non-automotive company.

The title “Red Dot: Client of the Year” has been awarded since 2010 to companies that place a special focus on the skills of creative people and that are especially successful in doing so. This is the first time that the sought-after award will be bestowed on a company from the food and beverage industry. The international jury for the Red Dot Award: Communication Design has selected the US corporation for several awards, with the firm clocking up nine Red Dot titles this year alone.

A prime example is Red Dot winning Pepsi Spire – a portfolio of innovative equipment, which PepsiCo rolled out earlier this year, and also awarded a Red Dot in this year’s competition. Pepsi Spire consists of a series of modern touchscreen units that allow consumers to create more than 200 customized flavors and personalised beverages.

“We’re honoured and thrilled to be this year’s recipients of the Red Dot: Client of the Year award,” said Mauro Porcini, PepsiCo Chief Design Officer. “Our international design team and partners from around the world work tirelessly to push the boundaries of design-led innovation, surprise and delight consumers and customers, and affect people’s lives with the products and experiences PepsiCo brings to market every day. It’s incredibly gratifying to all of us to be recognized for this work by such a prestigious organisation.”

In 1898 the pharmacist Caleb Bradham created the first Pepsi-Cola in New Bern, North Carolina. Nowadays Pepsi is the thirst-quencher of choice for millions of people in more than 200 countries. The company’s portfolio comprises 22 different product lines. With global brands like Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, Lay’s Potato Chips, Gatorade, Tropicana, 7UP and Lipton Teas, PepsiCo is one of the top names on the refreshments and fruit juices market and is a leading manufacturer of crisps and cereals.

“For more than 100 years, PepsiCo has impressed the world with entertaining adverts, modern campaigns and unforgettable slogans”, says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, Founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award. “Time after time, PepsiCo showed the courage to break new ground and conquer the market in an innovative way. This continuity builds trust with consumers, customers and partners and makes PepsiCo an attractive company with foresight in the creative industry. The company won over our strict jury in several disciplines and is an excellent and deserving Red Dot: Client of the Year”.

Chief Design Officer Mauro Porcini will accept the award on stage in the Konzerthaus in Berlin in front of more than 1,200 guests of honour in the celebratory atmosphere of the Red Dot Gala. Afterwards, the Designers’ Night will take place in the E-Werk in Berlin, where the award-winners, jury members and friends of design will come together to celebrate the high point of this year’s competition into the early hours.
