The Red Dot Award: Communication Design is celebrating its 25-year anniversary in 2017. With its vast experience, the award once again selected this year’s excellent achievements and now the winners of the international competition have been chosen.

Red Dot Gala 2017: The best designers and manufacturers of the year were recognised

On 3 July, the international design scene convened in Essen’s Aalto-Theater for the Red Dot Gala. During the award ceremony, the laureates of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 were duly celebrated. Afterwards, the party went on at the Designers’ Night in the Red Dot Design Museum in the midst of the award-winning products.

In February, 39 experts from all over the world convened in Essen to assess thousands of objects for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 in a process spanning several days. The best of them received the highest award “Red Dot: Best of the Best” – among them: the T-shirt “Graphi-Tee”, designed by WRAD.

“Canyon – Design that talks”: exhibition in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen

Since 1988, one design team, that stands out through its continuously innovative design work, is honoured each year. In 2017, the title of honour “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year” went to the bike manufacturer Canyon which is presenting its design achievements in the exhibition “Design that talks” in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen until 27 August.

The heart of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design is the jury. With its expertise, it assesses thousands of submissions each year on the basis of established criteria. In 2017 Thebe Ikalafeng, Philipp Teufel, Thilo von Debschitz and Akira Kobayashi are part of the jury.


Singapore celebrates red dot winners

On Friday 30 November 2007, Singapore’s creative scene celebrated the winners of this year’s red dot award: design concept. In the impressive atmosphere of the red dot Traffic, Singapore’s former police headquarters, which was redesigned especially for the red dot design museum, the proud winners were honoured in a spectacular awards ceremony in the presence of numerous international guests from the design industry.


Seat Opens New Design Center

Early in November the new SEAT Design Centre opened in Martorell near Barcelona. More than 130 invited guests, all of them renowned international designers and design and communication experts, attended the official dedication ceremony. The Catalan district president José Montilla was also participating in the opening. Professor Dr. Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and senator of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), was among the invited guests as well.

Designers and companies from all over the world are once again invited to register their products for the red dot design award, one of the leading and largest international design competitions. The coveted trophy is the red dot, the seal for design quality. The registration period ends on 18 January 2008.


German enterprises impress jury with successful design management

On 22 November, 18 companies in six categories received an award for their successful design management in the red dot design museum – among them five German companies: Loewe, Festo, BoschSiemens Hausgeräte and Walter Knoll as well as the drinks manufacturer Bionade in the Newcomers category. Duravit, Zapp and Lamy received an honourable mention. In total almost 240 companies, institutions and organisations from 21 European countries had followed the DME Award’s (Design Management Europe Award) call for entries.
