The Red Dot jury has made its decision: These are the best products of the year

Manufacturers and designers from 54 countries entered their current product innovations in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017. 39 experts from all over the world convened in Essen to assess each individual object live and in situ in a process spanning several days.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design honours projects of high design quality. Among the works which received a Red Dot: Best of the Best, the jury awards the Red Dot: Grand Prix. In 2016, the top individual award was granted to “The Real Time Brand”, designed by Grey Germany/KW43 Branddesign and Maruri Grey.

The regular registration phase runs until 14 May. In 18 categories the projects will be evaluated by a specialist jury. Some of these experts are repeatedly part of the jury. Among others Michel de Boer, Bettina Schulz, Chris Lee and Christof Rezk-Salama will select the winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017.

The Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 is well underway. Agencies, designers and companies from all over the world are currently called upon to submit their well-designed and creative works and projects from the field of communication design. A total of 18 categories are available for participation, one of them is “Poster”.

Red Dot Design-Ranking 2016 – outstanding performances by institutions

The Red Dot Design Ranking for design concepts tracks and measures the success of an organisation in producing exciting new design concepts over a period of time. The Red Dot jury of 21 international design experts awarded five institutions with the Red Dot: Best of the Best, in recognition of the outstanding effort and quality designs, one of them is "ENSCI - Les Ateliers".


B2B agency Gyro comes to Germany

The largest English agency for B2B communication, Gyro International, has opened their first office in Germany. The first general manager of the Hamburg office is Andreas Bodmann, who already worked for Hewlett Packard Europe, where he was business development manager EMEA for the field of digital publishing solutions and as such in charge of the German-speaking countries and France.

49 million notebooks sold worldwide – this is the finding of the US marketing research institute IDC. In Western Europe alone, the share of mobile computers is to increase by another 20 per cent. The manufacturers may rejoice in such figures. Experts for ergonomics such as Alan Hedge, head of the ergonomics laboratory at the Cornell University New York, however, are concerned about users’ health since notebooks may cause postural deformities, inflammations and even impotence. Ergonomically well-designed notebooks are therefore a challenge for any designer.

Water does not obey rules. It looks for new ways with all its force. Large rivers such as the Amazon or the Nile constantly create new living spaces by flooding complete areas. As a result of cultivation and embankments water has often lost its force today. The design of the Axor Starck X single-lever washstand mixer by Philippe Starck attempts to model this aspect of water’s ungovernable force and “abundance as a principle” has deliberately been chosen as a design maxim.
