Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 – Last chance for “Latecomer”

Designers, agencies and companies from all over the world only have until 9 June 2017 to submit their projects for the international advertised Red Dot Award: Communication Design in 18 categories. A 24-member jury will evaluate every single contribution individually and award the Red Dot seal exclusively to those who convince with good design quality and creativity.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design honours projects of high design quality. Among the works which received a Red Dot: Best of the Best, the jury awards the Red Dot: Grand Prix. In 2016, the top individual award was granted to “New Baraka – Building a Home with 30,000 People”, designed by denkwerk from Cologne, Germany.

Manufacturers and designers from 54 countries entered their current product innovations in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017. 39 experts from all over the world convened in Essen to assess each individual object live and in situ in a process spanning several days.

The heart of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design is the jury. With its expertise, it assesses thousands of submissions each year on the basis of established criteria. Some of these experts are repeatedly part of the jury. Among others Shu Chang Kung, Renne Angelvuo, Seung Hun Yoo and Jean Jacques Schaffner will select the winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017.

In February, 39 experts from all over the world convened in Essen to assess thousands of objects for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 in a process spanning several days. Only designs that won over the jury with their high design quality were awarded the sought-after distinction “Red Dot”, and the best of them received the highest award “Red Dot: Best of the Best” – among them: the fire extinguisher “Saviore” by ZINIZ, designed by Pei-Lun Sung.

The registration phase of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 is currently underway. The award opens agencies, designers and companies the doors to a worldwide network of creative minds and design-oriented companies, and offers the winners exclusive opportunities to communicate their success. One of the “Winners' Benefits” is the presentation of the award-winning work online on the website of the Red Dot Design Award: Communication Design.


Red Dot Award: Design Concept – Standard submission phase ends on 22 March

The work for the jury of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2017 will begin soon. The jurors will then be presented with the first round of entries, to make the selection for final judging. Only entries submitted at the Early and Standard submission periods qualify for prejudging.

In 2016, only 1.5 percent of all entries received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. It goes to the best products of a category, such as the chair “kayak” designed by Patrick Norguet.

At the heart of the Red Dot Award: Product Design is its jury. With their specialist knowledge, about 40 recognised experts from around the world guarantee the high quality standards and thus the value of the Red Dot seal. In the end of February they gathered in order to test, discuss and assess every single entry in an evaluation process lasting several days. In 2017, Aleks Tatic was again part of the expert committee, for whom the role of design in everyday life has changed: “Because companies recognised the competetive factor ‘design’, they are running design more and everywhere.”
