Manufacturers and designers from 54 countries entered their current product innovations in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017. 39 experts from all over the world convened in Essen to assess each individual object live and in situ in a process spanning several days.

Once a year, the jury of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design honours projects of high design quality. Among the works which received a Red Dot: Best of the Best, the jury awards the Red Dot: Grand Prix. In 2016, the top individual award was granted to “The Real Time Brand”, designed by Grey Germany/KW43 Branddesign and Maruri Grey.

The Red Dot Award opens agencies, designers and companies the doors to a worldwide network of creative and design-oriented companies and offers the winners exclusive opportunities to communicate their success. One of the “Winners' Benefits” is the presentation of the award-winning work and its makers in the International Yearbook Communication Design.

Red Dot Design-Ranking 2016 – outstanding performances by institutions

The Red Dot Design Ranking for design concepts tracks and measures the success of an organisation in producing exciting new design concepts over a period of time. The Red Dot jury of 21 international design experts awarded five institutions with the Red Dot: Best of the Best, in recognition of the outstanding effort and quality designs, one of them is "ENSCI - Les Ateliers".

The regular registration phase for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 is currently under way. Designers as well as manufacturers with a design gearing from all over the world have already been submitting their products for the international design competition since the end of October. The first experts to be part of the roughly 40-member jury have already been selected. These include high-tech industrial designer Alexander Neumeister (Germany), inventor of the USB stick Hideshi Hamaguchi (Japan) as well as design management specialist Dr. Thomas Lockwood (USA).

On Sunday, 4 December 2016, well-shaped objects went under the hammer in the Red Dot Design Museum, because it organised its traditional charity auction. Already since 2011, international design products are sold by auction for the good cause, many of them at a starting price of 1 euro. More than 130 guests from the region participated in the auction which was booked out already one week prior to the event.

From 7 December 2016 – 23 April 2017, the Red Dot Design Area Taipei presents a new exhibition: “Juxtapositions: Red Dot awarded Product Benchmarks from Taiwan and Abroad”. On show are Taiwanese and international objects which were granted a prize in the Red Dot Award: Product Design, one of the internationally largest product competitions. With a view to design, the presentation illustrates where Taiwan is positioned in the world.


Successful exhibition opening: “Under the Sign of the Circle” presents Red Dot awarded innovations from Japan

On Thursday, 24 November 2016, a new exhibition opened at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany: “Under the Sign of the Circle: Red Dot awarded Innovations from Japan”. The collection, comprised of around 100 designs from Japanese designers and manufacturers, will be on show until 19 March 2017. Drafts from various fields of life are on show – from furniture to telecommunication to posters.

Under the motto “Icons of brand design”, Professor Dr. Peter Zec, Founder and CEO of the Red Dot Design Award, will give a guided tour of the exhibition “Best Communication Design – Red Dot Winners Selection 2016” in the Museum for Communication Berlin on Tuesday, 29 November 2016 at 5.30 p.m. On the basis of the exhibited projects, honoured in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design, the design expert will explain the latest developments in the fields of advertising, marketing and design.
