On 14 November 2017, the International Yearbook Communication Design 2017/2018 will be published. It gives an overview in words and pictures of the works which received a prize in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017: from packaging design to posters, typographies, online projects and advertising campaigns to annual reports and apps.

From emotional home robot to innovative sun umbrella to aesthetic chair: award-winning products from all fields of everyday life are currently in the focus of the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany. In the former boiler house of the Zollverein coal mine World Heritage Site, visitors discover the best products of the year in the exhibition “Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017” until 6 August. More than 1.000 innovations and well-designed products from 42 countries present the state of the art in industrial design.


Red Dot Gala 2017: The best designers and manufacturers of the year were recognised

On 3 July 2017, the international design scene convened in Essen’s Aalto-Theater for the Red Dot Gala. During the gala, the laureates of the Red Dot Award: Product Design were duly celebrated and the Red Dot: Best of the Best winners received their trophies. The Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2017, the Canyon Design Team, won over the crowd with an extraordinary appearance. Afterwards, the party went on well into the early hours at the Designers’ Night in the Red Dot Design Museum in the midst of the award-winning products.

The heart of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design is the jury. With its expertise, it assesses thousands of submissions each year on the basis of established criteria. In 2017, there are 24 globally recognised experts who meet in Essen, Germany, to jointly decide in a multi-day process about the awarding of the coveted label “Red Dot”. Some of these experts are repeatedly part of the jury. Among others Johnason Lo, Niels Schrader and Peter Philippe Weiss will select the winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017.


China Good Design: application until 25 July and 50 free registrations

China Good Design is in full swing: Until 25 July 2017, designers and manufacturers from all over the world can hand in their products for the competition, organised by Red Dot and the Xiamen Media Group, and thus win one of fifty free registrations. All products that were manufactured within an industrial production process, can be assessed by the international expert jury. The aim is to highlight high-quality products, manufactured by global companies, on the Chinese market and to recognise their outstanding quality.
