Full house: successful start of communication design exhibition

On the evening of 17 March 2016, the exhibition “World’s Best Communication Design and Highlights from NRW” opened in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany. Until 29 May 2016, the museum presents current top-achievements of the international communication design scene – from clever packaging to informative apps to expressive posters.

Innovative design is key to economic success

The around 250 guests of the vernissage were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot. He honoured the creative industries in North Rhine-Westphalia as one of the central markets, that add to a high degree to the federal state’s competitiveness and innovation capacity. Regarding the exhibition he stressed that innovative design solutions are the key to economic success in the advertising industry: Only those who manage to obviously stand out from the crowd have the chance to survive in the market. This is what the distinction with a Red Dot stands for.

Exhibited works demonstrate creative communication

Throughout the evening, the guests visited the exhibition and had the opportunity to explore the exhibits in detail. In addition to illustrations, poster campaigns and typography outstanding annual reports, brochures and books were ready to be explored by the visitors. While examples of particularly successful communication strategies in the fields of "Sound Design” and "Film & Animation“ were shown in a cinema lounge, the visitors were informed on screens about game designs and different interfaces. The exhibition of up-to-date trends, marketing tools, and communications solutions shows works that received the highest distinctions “Red Dot: Best of the Best” or “Red Dot: Grand Prix”. It is completed by award-winning drafts made in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Laureates are honoured in the exhibition

Besides students, people interested in design and professors, among others, the laureates Natalie Stosiek from Mettmann and Lara Wilkin from Gladbeck were present at the exhibition. The portrait "Recoil” by Natalie Stosiek is part of a series of illustrations that portray the English musician and composer Alan Wilder. One of the motives is the key visual of the exhibition. Design student Lara Wilkin is represented by a series of illustrations, which draws attention to the problems of waste disposal in nature. The designers were pleased with the presentation in the museum and were eager to provide information on their works at site.
