Colors in Cologne
The color trends of past years continue and, in part, they are overlaid by or even replaced with new and increasingly stronger trends.
The dominance of warm, red-based color combinations is still highly visible. The muted colors, not the bright ones, characterize living areas where withdrawal, contemplation, relaxation and exchange are at the center of attention. The comfortable life at home – now referred to as cocooning or homing – clearly prefers cozy comfort and warmth instead of representative intellectual brilliance in cold shades. Orange and yellow stand out on upholstered furniture, chairs and cabinets. Earthy shades of sand and brown like crème, beige, ochre and shades of reddish gray join the basic reds.
Shades of gray lead the way to a new trend, which now increasingly stands out in furniture design and connects to analogous trends in other cultural sectors: the eighties are coming back. Their most palpable characteristic is the emphasis on the striking black-and-white contrast, which is now found in interior design.
The third trend – and a clear alternative to the others mentioned – becomes obvious in the fact that many designs that can be called or have been recognized as classics of the sixties and seventies have been revitalized and celebrated with re-editions. In particular, the pop-era classics with their bright monochromatic colors stand out from the other products.
