Starting on Saturday, February 28, 2004 and running through Saturday, May 8, 2004, the German channel ZDF will air an 11-part documentary series about design and contemporary history on its digital "dokukanal".
On April 24 and May 1, Professor Dr. Peter Zec, President of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, will be giving an interview about design history and the current design standards of two companies – Sony and Apple – at 5:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the sequels "The Sony Walkman 1979" and "The Apple Macintosh 1984".
Picture and archive materials from international film and television archives, but also from the internal archives of international companies, offer an insight into the world of design and allow design history to come to life. The series titled "Form and Function" aims to offer an insight into the past and present world of design and design history in an exciting and entertaining way.
ZDFdokukanal is part of the digital bouquet ZDFvision, which is aired throughout Germany via satellite and via cable on channel 32. The precondition for receiving digital television is a set-top box. This summer, the series will be repeated on 3SAT; the dates have not yet been determined.
