Trend: Natural and Artificial

Natural and artificial – combining and playing with these two opposites is still a dominant subject – it is also a symbol for man in the artificial environments he creates.

Organic forms or natural linear movements contrast with geometric and technological forms. Striking examples are lampshades that are inspired by honeycombs or the shape of bamboo, or stools that remind us of fossils or shaped from a real tree stem.

Cuboid designs are graphically reduced and covered with soft materials in natural colors. Organic forms are made more artificial through the use of shiny plastics, bright orange or polished chrome. In the end, the current discussion about the biological limitations of man, his formability through technology and the implied ethical consequences is reflected in this trend.
