Red Dot in China 2016
From 29 October until 1 November 2016, Red Dot brings the world of design to the International Conference and Exhibition Center of the South-East-Chinese metropolis Xiamen: For the fifth time in a row, Red Dot is the major partner and trade fair organiser of the Xiamen International Design Week (XIDW). In an interview, Red Dot CEO Professor Dr. Peter Zec gives insights into the successful fair and his talks about his personal highlight.

At the Konzerthaus Berlin, the best of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design will receive their trophies.

Application phase 2017 begins
From 24 October 2016 onwards, designers and manufacturers can enter their products for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 – one of the largest product competitions in the world. For more than 60 years, it has offered a fair and independent design benchmark.
Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2016
The Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2016 has been chosen: Serviceplan has won the day in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design. With its innovative campaigns, this partner-led agency proved to be the strongest service provider as demonstrated by its 11 Red Dot and five Red Dot: Best of the Best awards in this year’s competition.

“La valeur du design”: Red Dot exhibition opened in France
On Wednesday, 14 September 2016, “La valeur du design” (“The value of design”) opened in St. Etienne, France. Until 8 January 2017, Red Dot awarded products from France and around the world inform visitors of the Cité du Design about the merits and value of good design.

The Red Dot Design Museum Singapore features a new collection of the latest innovations from this year’s Red Dot Award: Product Design. The exhibition showcases product solutions with refined technology, improved combination of materials and increased emphasis on users’ comfort and convenience. The exclusive presentation runs until 30 November 2016.

The “Xiamen International Design Business Week – Red Dot in China” promises global design achievements on the highest level. Red Dot is the major partner of the fair in the South-Chinese metropolis for the third time now and it is already considered as the most important meeting of the industry. From 5 – 8 November 2014, 150 best practice examples will present the state of the art in design and show how a sustainable design strategy leads to economical success.

What is game design? Everything – that’s what Daniel Budiman, presenter of the TV show Game One, would say. But how can we even describe “everything”? By having renowned experts and industry gurus speak about their ideas and experiences relating to game design and inviting others to be part of the happening. Consequently, following on from last year’s success, Red Dot will present itself as a mediator for the creative industries once again in 2014 – with the conference “Define Game Design” at the Café Moskau in Berlin on 23 October in collaboration with Daniel Budiman.

Functionality and ergonomics are important features for tools. To ensure a smooth working processes, for instance in assembly work, the equipment needs to be easy to handle but also versatile in use. For German manufacturer Wiha Werkzeuge, Thomas Schandelmeier developed a magazine bit holder with an innovative opening mechanism. Via an easy-to-operate pressure lock, the user receives the correct bit simply through the push of a button. The ergonomic magazine handle design is very compact but enables energy-saving, comfortable and effective screw fastening.

The dates for this year’s creative events by Red Dot in Berlin have been set. The design competition will be massively present in the Germany capital from 23 to 25 October as part of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2014. The long weekend will be devoted entirely to honouring this year’s winners. 7,096 projects from 49 countries were entered in the competition this year.

Inspired by nature, French designer Ora-ïto skilfully played with the patterns of human perception when creating the dining table of the same name for the manufacturer Roche Bobois. Connected to the ground by three spiralled arms, the round tempered glass top of the Ora-ïto table seems as if it were moving and spinning upon itself. In a symbiosis between visionary design and technological know-how the Ora-ïto emerged as a table of extraordinary beauty – a fascinating manifestation of motion in form that lures the senses.
