Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015
On 11 February, the registration phase for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 will end: Designers, brands and manufacturers from all continents are submitting thousands of entries right now. An international jury of independent design experts evaluates every product and the best achievements are awarded with the sought-after “Red Dot” quality seal.

The most successful seating furniture manufacturers
Several thousands of current products are assessed every year as part of the Red Dot Award. The competition, which has been tracking down the best designs for 60 years now, traditionally receives a particularly large number of entries in the “Living rooms” and “Interior design” categories. On the occasion of the largest German interiors show, IMM Cologne, the Red Dot Award: Product Design is publishing an industry-specific ranking that provides information on the most successful seating furniture manufacturers.

“To explore new issues and topics in design, to integrate design thinking, and to entrust high regard to quality of communication...” Prof. Kuan Cheng Neng, member of the design concept award jury kicks off the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2015 by articulating what he is looking forward to for the coming contest. Right now, up-and-coming talents, designers, companies and universities from all over the world have the opportunity to enter their design visions in the competition and put their whole creative potential to the test.

Designs with a story – in the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story”
The American entrepreneur Henry Ford once said: “Every object tells a story, if you know how to read it.” Inspired by this quote, the exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story” grants exciting peeks behind the scenes of design and shows how award-winning design is characterised. Until 31 May 2015, visitors of the HKDI Gallery in Hong Kong can experience the exemplarily selection of designs from various living environments and discover what is hidden under the surface.

Taiwanese Design Faces
A special exhibition which focuses on the creative minds behind award-winning designs is presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei until 29 March 2015. “Taiwanese Design Faces” tells stories – about five Taiwanese designers. The presentation introduces the people who create innovative products, convince manufacturers to produce these, and who give advice and support during the whole development process, from the idea to the finished good.

In the course of the 23rd “Große Zechenfest” at UNESCO world cultural heritage Zeche Zollverein, the red dot design museum invites to a total of six free guided tours on 29 and 30 September 2012. These will inform the guests about contemporary everyday objects from all over the world. Visitors will recognise many of these consumer goods and will maybe even have one or two of the products at home. The exhibits share a very special feature that distinguishes them from other everyday items, namely their excellent design.

The numbers of product counterfeiting and plagiarism increased dramatically within the last years. Manufacturers often make the bitter experience that products – in which years of research and development have been invested – are plagiarised shortly after their market launch. Since 1977, the negative award “Plagiarius” has been announced to put ruthless fakes into the limelight and to sensitise the consumers for the topic.

Young Israeli mandolin player Avi Avital graduated from “Jerusalem Academy of Music“ and is said to be one of the most outstanding soloists of our time. In 2007, he won the renowned Israeli prize for soloists, the “Aviv competition”. In Germany, he was awarded the ECHO for his recording with the “David Orlowsky Trio”.

On 24 October 2012, the international design elite will once again come together in Berlin, Germany, in order to experience the brilliant final of this year’s “red dot award: communication design”. Subsequently to the glamorous awards ceremony at the Konzerthaus Berlin, which traditionally stands for prestige and elegance, people will meet at the Designers’ Night. At the Alte Münze Berlin, located at the Molkenmarkt, the proud laureates will party together with representatives from the media, politics and economy until the wee hours.
