The jury session of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2015 is finished. During three intense days, numerous works from all over the world were examined and evaluated by the 27-headed jury. Now it is time to wait and look forward to Berlin.

Awarded designers on design quality
In this years’ product competition, 81 products out of 4,928 submissions were distinguished with the highest single award "Red Dot: Best of the Best". Red Dot talked to some people behind the winning products. Selected statements on their understanding of design quality are available here.

Highly efficient and emotional: LED technology in the lighting sector
During the International Year of Light, technologies are focused which reduce the global emissions of greenhouse gases: for example, through the use of light-emitting diodes - LEDs. How different LEDs are already used in current designs, is shown by selected lights.

From “Industrieform” to Red Dot (1954 - 1979)
Still until 23 August 2015, the Red Dot Design Museum and the Ruhr Museum in Essen, Germany, are presenting the exhibition “Enduring, not ultimate form”. In the same way that design has constantly changed and developed further, so too has today’s Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen stayed close to the pulse of time in the past sixty years.

The British Embassy Berlin is currently self-promoting the UK with an innovative campaign. Under the slogan “This is Great”, a MINI exclusively branded with the Union Jack is touring in Germany and heading for interesting places with a connection to Great Britain. There is no question that a visit at the red dot design museum in Essen also was on the list – mind you the building was reconstructed into a museum by the British star architect Lord Norman Foster.

The red dot design award has always pursued the objective to especially approach and motivate young creatives. With the special young professional program, the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen has successfully implemented this intention. Every year, a renowned jury awards the best newcomer works in the fields of product design, communication design and design concept. Out of thousands of entries, only the best ideas and works are honoured in the red dot design award every year. But is it possible to even potentiate outstanding design quality? What happens if successful designers and products come together and something totally new is created as a result? Surprisingly, the red dot laureate Andy Adresen from Switzerland did so by combining a shelf with the legendary Porsche 911. He proves that even products from very different segments can perfectly harmonise.
