Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015
In search of good design and innovations
Since the beginning of November the registration phase for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 has been running. The competition, which origins date back to 1954, is one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design competitions. Manufacturers and designers from more than 75 countries take part. Chosen by an independent and renowned jury, the award increases the visibility of designers and companies, brands and products. The use of the Red Dot label is exclusively reserved for the winners of the competition.

Best of Belgian Design
From 28 October 2014 until 25 January 2015, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents the special exhibition “Light & Shape: Best of Belgian Design”. From ultra-light luggage collection to unusual lamps: the exemplary selection of products from various living environments presents a cross-section of the current Belgian design standard. Touching and testing most of the exhibits is explicitly allowed, since outstanding design quality becomes apparent only in use.

Event: Every product tells a story
Good products do not appear from nowhere. In the beginning, there always is an idea which turns into the final product after a long development process and countless drafts. But where do these ideas come from and how do designers get their motivation? The exhibition “Every Product Tells a Story”, which can be visited from 28 November 2014 until 31 May 2015 in the Hong Kong Design Institute, explores this question in detail.

Taiwanese Design Faces
A special exhibition which focuses on the creative minds behind award-winning designs is presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei from 13 November 2014 – 29 March 2015. “Taiwanese Design Faces” tells stories – about five Taiwanese designers. The presentation introduces the people who create innovative products, convince manufacturers to produce these, and who give advice and support during the whole development process, from the idea to the finished good.

The International Yearbook Communication Design 2014/2015
Every year, the winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design are honoured and their works are published in an extensive reference book – for eternity. The two-volume International Yearbook Communication Design 2014/2015 is hot off the press and gives an overview of the status quo of current communication design.

When red dot visits the South-Chinese seaport Xiamen from 8 – 12 September 2012, the status quo of Chinese and international top design will be presented: In the course of the red dot design forum, the economic advantages of consistent design strategies will be discussed. At the moment, China is close to a structural change which requires a new plan in order to support further development of Chinese companies.

“Made in Germany” is not only a designation of origin, but even more a quality seal which became a symbol for high-class engineers’ work and quality products. In 2012 it celebrates its birthday: 125 years ago, the mark of goods was introduced. Consumers appreciate it as a proof of very high product quality today – although it was initiated to preserve British consumers from “inferior” products and copies from Germany at that time.

In 2012, designers, companies and young professionals from 43 nations submitted a total of 6,823 works and took their chance to receive one of the coveted distinctions of the “red dot award: communication design”. Those who wanted to convince the jury of international experts, succeeded with aesthetic designs, original concepts and expressive pictures.

Just in time for the 51st CARAVAN SALON DÜSSELDORF, the proud laureates of this year’s “caravaning design award” were honoured on 25 August 2012. In addition, it was also announced who was able to convince in the course of an online voting and was thus awarded the newly introduced public prize for its designs.
