A little over a year ago, the Austrian designer Gerald Wirthenstätter won the red dot: best of the best in the category red dot award: design concept for “Tringa,” an innovative rowboat that can be rowed in the direction the rower is looking. World Industrial design Day

On 29 June 2008 the design world will celebrate the first „World Industrial Design Day“. The World Industrial Design Day has been initiated by the international umbrella association of industrial designers Icsid (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) with a view to offer as of now a fix date every year on which the merits of the profession of industrial designers and their influence on our living standards shall be recalled. Design expert Professor Dr. Zec holds lecture in Shenzhen (China)

In Shenzhen, the neighbouring city of Hong Kong and China’s oldest Special Economic Zone, the first “China World Industrial Design Forum” took place from 17 to 18 May 2008. The event was part of the “International Cultural Industry Fair” (ICIF), a creative industries fair in Shenzhen, which is the largest in the People’s Republic of China. Renowned business and design experts, among them Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and Senator of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), were invited to discuss the significance of design for Chinese companies against the backdrop of global markets under the motto “Feel the design power and use it in real life”. Be quick in applying for the red dot award: communication design 2008

Designers, advertising agencies and clients of communication designers from all over the world are invited once more to submit their entries for the competition and to face up to international comparison in one of the most severe design competitions in the world. The registration period for latecomers ends on 13th June 2008. Volunteers wanted for the adjudication phase of the red dot award: communication design
