New exhibition on Red Dot awarded product benchmarks from Taiwan and abroad at the Red Dot Design Area Taipei
From 7 December 2016 – 23 April 2017, the Red Dot Design Area Taipei presents a new exhibition: “Juxtapositions: Red Dot awarded Product Benchmarks from Taiwan and Abroad”. On show are Taiwanese and international objects which were granted a prize in the Red Dot Award: Product Design, one of the internationally largest product competitions. With a view to design, the presentation illustrates where Taiwan is positioned in the world.

50 free registration places for upcoming designers
Designers and manufacturers can currently register their products for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017. “Young Professionals Application Day” provides an opportunity for upcoming designers to also take part in the competition. On 7 December 2016, trained designers who have graduated within the past five years have the chance to apply for one of a total of 50 free registration places.
Professor Dr. Peter Zec
Red Dot founder received honorary citizenship of Seoul
On 28 October 2016, Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award, was awarded honorary citizenship of the City of Seoul. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has been bestowing the title since 1958 to personalities who demonstrate exemplary commitment to the South Korean capital city.

At the moment, designers and manufacturers can enter their products for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 – one of the largest product competitions in the world. For more than 60 years, it has offered a fair and independent design benchmark.

Red Dot Design Museum Essen
“Under the Sign of the Circle” presents Red Dot awarded innovations from Japan
On Thursday, 24 November 2016, a new exhibition opened at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany: “Under the Sign of the Circle: Red Dot awarded Innovations from Japan”. The collection, comprised of around 100 designs from Japanese designers and manufacturers, will be on show until 19 March 2017.

On 24 October 2016, the registration period of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 will begin. With the help of a jury, the international competition appraises the top products of the year. Manufacturers and designers from all over the world submit originals of their latest products in the hope of being awarded the sought-after distinction “Red Dot”. Participants have until 8 February 2017 at the latest to submit their products.

The Red Dot Design Ranking 2016 honours enterprise and institutions which have continuously proven excellence in the course of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept. The ranking is based on a weighted formula considering the cumulative number and classes of awards received over the last five years. The Red Dot Design Ranking, which is released by the Red Dot Institute, consists of four honourary lists: for companies, design studios, universities in the Asia Pacific region and universities in the Americas and Europe.

On Wednesday, 14 September 2016, a new Red Dot exhibition opened in France. During a reception at the Cité du Design in St. Etienne, “La valeur du design” (“The value of design”) was on show for the first time. Until 8 January 2017, Red Dot awarded products from France and around the world inform visitors about the merits and value of good design. They demonstrate that the term “design” goes way beyond the surface.

Not long now: On 4 November 2016, the winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design will be honoured in Berlin. On stage of the Konzerthaus Berlin the best of the best will receive their Red Dot Trophies. And it remains exciting until the very end: Only on the evening of the awarding ceremony, in the presence of 1,400 international guests, it is announced who will get the highest single distinction of a category, the Red Dot: Grand Prix. Mutabor, The Techno Creatives and the SAP Design & Co-Innovation Center can already be pleased now as they all have been awarded in this year’s competition.

From 29 October until 1 November 2016, Red Dot brings the world of design to the International Conference and Exhibition Center of the South-East-Chinese metropolis Xiamen: For the fifth time in a row, Red Dot is the major partner and trade fair organiser of the Xiamen International Design Week (XIDW). Red Dot has been hosting the trade fair for premium products since 2012. With 300,000 visitors in 2015 alone, it has become an important platform for manufacturers and designers in the Asia-Pacific region.
