Dr. Robert Ian Blaich was born in 1930 in New York. He studied architecture at Syracuse University. Author of "Product Design and Corporate Strategy” and "New and notable Product Design”, Robert Blaich was awarded a Doctor of Fine Arts (Honoris Causa) in 1990 by Syracuse University.
Before he founded Blaich Associates in Aspen, Colorado, in 1992, he was Senior Managing Director of Design at Philips for twelve years. There, he was responsible for the introduction of a design management system, which regards design, production and marketing as a single unit. Blaich’s commitment to design as the core element of a business rapidly won him worldwide recognition.
In 1992, he received the Worlddesign Medal from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). From 1987 to 1989 he was President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID). Since 1992 he has been President of Blaich Associates. He is also Chairman of the Board of Teague Design, a member of the Board of Advisors of the Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts, and a member of the Board of Overseers, Institute of Design-IIT.
In addition, he teaches at numerous universities and institutions throughout the world, and regularly publishes essays and books.
