A Festival of Creativity – Award Ceremony 2004
July 5, 2004 was the date once again: more than 1,000 international guests from the fields of design, politics, business and culture celebrated the winners of this year's red dot award: product design.
The award ceremony night was a festival of creativity, as was the case during past years. The opening of the "Design Innovations – red dot award: product design 2004" started the festivities at the red dot design museum. This year, the Pininfarina Design Team has been honored as design team of the year, which has come to be praised through outstanding design in the automobile sector. The work of the design team can also be seen at the red dot museum under the title "Pininfarina – The Tradition of the New".
The Ferrari Club Germany organized a Ferrari parade in honor of Pininfarina; it consisted of 12 classic cars and 12 more recent models. The parade started outside the impressive setting of the red dot design museum on the grounds of Zeche Zollverein and accompanied the Pininfarina delegation to the Aalto Theater in Essen. There, the award winners were honored during a gala at the Aalto Theater in Essen. Mathias Haus musically opened the gala on the grand piano. The aalto ballet theater again made an impression with a new performance: "Diaghilew – The Favorites" choreographed by Jochen Ulrich shows "a play of love and dependence, power and obsession" – ideal for the festive night. Bruno Sacco, long-standing Chief Designer of Mercedes-Benz, gave the laudation for the design team of the year. The challenge cup Radius, on which all past design teams of the year are engraved, was handed to Paolo Pininfarina, Managing Director of Pininfarina Extra S.p.A., and Lorenzo Ramaciotti, responsible for automobile design at Pininfarina, by last year’s winner, the Nokia Design Team. The gates of the red dot design museum were opened until 2.00 a.m. for the Designer's Night. A whole night under the sign of design: the award ceremony has been a very special event this year.
