Sculptural and Reduced - Forms in Cologne.

One trend that could be observed during the Milan Furniture Fair 2002 also emerged in Cologne: the reduced, sculptural asceticism of the formal language. The current straight lines and purism are suitable for furniture that is often used in the office and reception sectors as well as for living. Today, the cuboid armchair in its numerous manifestations has become an indispensable element in the timelessly elegant environment.

In addition, all sitting furniture is characterized by the fact that its clear, strict, cuboid outer form has a suspenseful relationship with its soft, flowing, sculptural inner line. The wave has become a popular form of association, either caught in a rectangle (e.g., for single chairs) or freestanding (e.g., for chaise lounges).

Simple forms and discrete colors, however, do not imply boredom. The surprise results from the hidden functionality - this, too, is a trend that leads to relaxed and modest elegance. The request for luxury on the surface can hardly be found; instead, durable values and sophisticated comfort are in demand.

Many companies present products that combine the classic formal language with quotes from the successes of the seventies and eighties.
