The International Furniture Fair Cologne has given itself a new name this year: imm cologne 2003 was the title of this year's fair, which - besides the Milan fair - is the most important event of its kind worldwide.

The first fundamental trend is that design as a subject has moved into the foreground. It received more attention and space than ever before. Halls 1 through 3 were reserved for design manufacturers, and the fair focused the designs of stars, students and established designers in several other locations.

The second fundamental trend is that there is no clear trend with respect to the current economic mood and actual situation. Companies disseminated content and optimism as much as they did reserve and skepticism.

Still, the general economic atmosphere seems to have led to the fact that there was an absence of big sensations and surprises. Stagnation at a high level - that was the third fundamental trend. Details were elaborated and the existing was perfected.
