Plastic inspires. - Materials in Milan.

We know that Kartell makes remarkable seating furniture in plastic. New models, glowing mystically in many Plexiglas colours, have been added this year. In addition, plastic is also being used increasingly for glasses and vases. Cappellini shows that plastic does not have to be monotonous: there are now Ron Arad chairs in two-tone plastic from a single casting.

Among the luminaires, an interesting variant catches the eye: Plexiglas lamps produced in two layers, a technique borrowed from glassmaking. Coated white on the inside, and transparent on the outside. Together with the Plexiglas innovations, narrative forms in epoxy resin also appear among the luminaires.

The attempts to incorporate communication and lighting facilities in objects and furniture are also striking. At Ingo Maurer, news is presented on light strips worked into ladies’ dresses. Elsewhere, the floor exudes its own glow, as we walk over a carpet with light emitting diodes.

A total change in the Poliform showroom: the Bacchus kitchen from Christian Liagre flirts with natural contrasts - hard edges on the dining table and hard wood as a stool, left in its natural state as if it had just come out of the forest.
