Trend: Retro

The term retro describes the sustained development of being inspired by earlier designs or to revive designs that were already there before. In an economically difficult time, well-tried classics provide a helpful orientation. A certain fear of the future and a paralysis with regard to the need to constantly invent new things are social factors that decisively contribute to the development of this trend.

This year, the 1980s served as the godfather: silver and chrome are back, the surfaces shine, and geometric forms stand in the foreground. The 1970s are represented with shades of brown and orange.

The return to design classics that revive seems to be more present than innovation. What already crystallized at the Milan furniture fair also emerged at the Light & Building in Frankfurt and the Tendence Lifestyle as a trend: retro can be observed across the industries.
