Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016 – the jury continues to grow

In a few days, the registration period for the Red Dot Award: Communication Design will end. Only until 10 June, designers and agencies can enter their best projects and face the judgement of the Red Dot jury. The international gremium decides on which works are awarded with the quality seal of the design industry, the Red Dot.

Sylvia Vitale Rotta from Team Creatif

This year, Sylvia Vitale Rotta, Founder and CEO of the Team Creatif Group, is part of the Red Dot jury for the first time. She studied at the Art School of London. There, she met Nick Craig with whom she founded Team Creatif (Branding & Packaging Identity) in 1986. Since then, the design agency has become a reference on the French market and abroad. With 250 employees representing ten different nationalities, the agency works with 52 countries worldwide and helps clients to build the success of their brand on local and international markets. In 2008, Sylvia Vitale Rotta was President of the first design jury at the Eurobest and one year later she acted as President of the design category at the Cannes Lions. In 2013, she was part of the jury at the Dubai Lynx. In 2014, she initiated a masterclass for the Cannes Lions and in 2015 for the Lieu du Design. Sylvia Vitale Rotta furthermore is an active member of the EPDA (European Packaging Design Association).

Eric Chang from Taiwan

Also part of the jury is markeitng expert Eric Chang. He has a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and joined the Ogilvy & Mather Group Taiwan in 1996. Currently, he serves as Vice President Business Development for OgilvyOne Asia Pacific, helping to promote the development of digital business throughout the Asia Pacific region. He furthermore is Managing Director of OgilvyOne Taiwan and neo@Ogilvy Taiwan, providing clients such services as digital marketing strategies and digital media planning, CRM strategy consultation and direct marketing as well as communications planning. He has advised clients in a wide array of industries such as finance, communications, high-tech, telecom, automotive, and fast-moving consumer goods. Passionately dedicated to cultivating digital talent, he currently teaches at NCCU, Fujen University and Shih Hsin University.

Red Dot juror Michel de Boer

Professor Michel De Boer is one of the most experienced jurors in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design. He was born in 1954 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Higher Technologies in Rotterdam. In 1989, he became Creative Managing Partner at Studio Dumbar, where he was responsible for the creative output until 2010. From 2011, he started his independent design company MdB Associates with liaising offices in Germany, Korea and Hong Kong. In 2014, he opened his new office De Boer & Wang Studio in Shanghai, which is part of the DeTao group. With more than 30 years of experience in branding, corporate and graphic design, Michel de Boer has worked for many clients around the world such as Apple, Allianz, Shell, Nike, Randstad, General Motors China, TNT, Woongjin and the Dutch and South Korean government. In 2005, he became visiting professor at the Instituto Universitario Architettura in Venice, Italy. He is an advisor at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and professor at the SIVA-DeTao University for the Advanced Class Program on Branding. Michel de Boer is a member of the professional organisations BNO the Netherlands, Alliance Graphique International (AGI) and D&AD in the UK.

Information designer Niels Schrader

Also Niels Schrader has already been part of the Red Dot jury several times. He was born in Venezuela in 1977. The concept-driven information designer has a fascination for numbers and data. He is founder of the Amsterdam-based design studio Mind Design and member of the AGI – Alliance Graphique Internationale. He graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf in 2003 and received his master’s degree from the Sandberg Institute Amsterdam. Before setting up his own studio in Amsterdam in 2005, Schrader worked as a freelance designer for Uwe Loesch and Irma Boom. His portfolio of clients includes: Museum of the Image, Museum De Paviljoens, Goethe-Institut of the Netherlands, Mondriaan Foundation, Berlage Institute, Leiden University, VU University Amsterdam, KCAP Architects & Planners, Jap Sam Books, Onomatopee – Office and Projectspace and Slewe Gallery in Amsterdam. Next to his design practice, Schrader has been lecturing at the Delft University of Technology, ArtEZ – Academy of Art & Design in Arnhem and Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Since 2013, he is co-head of the Graphic Design department at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
