"Formosa Forms": the Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents an exhibition on Taiwanese design trends

Sculptural lamps, high-performance notebooks and entertaining gadgets: With well-shaped products from various life worlds, Taiwan ranks among the world market leaders in the design sector. The results of the Red Dot Design Award prove this, too. Taiwan regularly ranks among the top-5 of about 70 countries in this competition. In the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015, the nation’s creative minds will measure themselves again – with their innovations in international comparison. Red Dot Edition introduces its publishing programme at the Frankfurt Book Fair

After last year`s successful premiere, the specialist publisher Red Dot Edition is part of the Frankfurt Book Fair again. From 8 – 12 October 2014, the stall G94 in Hall 4.1 provides an overview on the latest trends in product and communication design – an outline of works, which were awarded a Red Dot thanks to their high quality. With seating-accommodations, the newly designed trade fair booth invites visitors to stay and thus functions as a place for professional exchange. More »

Three questions to: Ran Amitai & Gilli Kuchik of Bakery Studio

The art of origami looks back at a hundred-year-old tradition in Asia. The skilful folding of paper transforms it into two- and three-dimensional sculptures of authentic appearance. This art served as a source of inspiration for the NOM (Nature of Material) furniture series, which was developed by Bakery Studio from Israel for Italian manufacturer Cappellini. More »

What is game design? Everything – that’s what Daniel Budiman, presenter of the TV show Game One, would say. But how can we even describe “everything”? Functionality and ergonomics are important features for tools. To ensure a smooth working processes, for instance in assembly work, the equipment needs to be easy to handle but also versatile in use. For German manufacturer Wiha Werkzeuge, Thomas Schandelmeier developed a magazine bit holder with an innovative opening mechanism. Via an easy-to-operate pressure lock, the user receives the correct bit simply through the push of a button. The ergonomic magazine handle design is very compact but enables energy-saving, comfortable and effective screw fastening. More »
