The 1st BDA-Day and Award Ceremony of the BDA Grand Prize 2005
On 12 March 2005, the Association of German Architects (BDA) invites their members and all people interested in architecture and building culture to take part in the 1st BDA-Day at the Gürzenich in Cologne. The nationwide forum follows the tradition of the BDA Association Days and reflects the new positioning of the Association.
The BDA-Day in Cologne provides opportunity for discussion and dialogue on the practices and perspectives of the building culture. Issues in the areas of city planning and architecture, competitiveness, occupational tasks, fee standard, as well as education of architects and city planners, will be discussed taking into account the changed conditions of the social, economic and political environment.
In the course of the 1st BDA-Day, the award ceremony of the BDA Grand Prize 2005 will be held. This year’s prize, which was first presented to Hans Scharoun in 1964, and later to Mies van der Rohe and Egon Eiermann, among others, goes to Meinhard von Gerkan and Volkwin Marg in recognition of the two architects' life work. This year, Meinhard von Gerkan and Volkwin Marg are celebrating 40 years of cooperation in the gmp studio. Covering the whole spectrum of specified tasks in the occupation of architects, von Gerkan and Marg’s best-known works range from refurbishment, as for instance of the Dresden Altmarkt, to the building of residential houses, concert halls, airports and train stations, to the planning of new cities in China.
On Sunday, March 13, all visitors are welcome to take part in architectural walking tours round new buildings in Cologne, which provide further opportunity for discussion.
