Richard Sapper Exhibition in Berlin
Until 13 March 2005, visitors have the opportunity to see works by designer Richard Sapper in the stilwerk Berlin. The exhibition was set up to celebrate Sapper’s being awarded “Designer of the Year 2005” by the magazine “Architektur & Wohnen” (architecture and living).
Sapper, who was born in Germany and lives in Milan, is creator of design classics such as “Tizio,” the first halogen desk lamp, which is exemplary of his design approach. Many of his modern classics are represented and shown in the permanent collections of museums and exhibitions, more than 15 of his objects are on display in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Richard Sapper studied philosophy and business administration at the University of Munich. Beginning his career in 1956 at the Daimler-Benz Styling Department, he left in 1958 to work as a designer for Gio Ponti in Milan, where he closely worked together with Marco Zanuso until 1977. Since 1980, Sapper works as IBM design consultant and is responsible for their worldwide product design. Richard Sapper teaches at numerous universities and academies around the world.
