IEN Nagoya Symposium

The International New Designers Workshop 2003

Two important events related to graphic design education will take place within the framework of the Icograda Visualogue Congress in Nagoya Japan in October. The events are organised by the International New Designers Workshop 2003 Organizing Committee (City of Nagoya, International design Center Nagoya), the Icograda Education Network (IEN), and the Icograda Congress - Nagoya, Japan Steering Committee.


The IEN (Icograda Education Network) Nagoya Symposium cum The International New Designers Workshop 2003 will be held on October 7-8. Graphic Design educators from 11 invited schools from around the world will discuss current challenges in curriculum development by comparing expectations as reflected in 1st year student projects with results as presented in final year projects. Participants in the Visualogue Congress are invited to attend the symposium and participate in the panel discussion sessions.

The International New Designers Workshop (2003) Exhibition which will be opened at the symposium and will run through the Visualogue Congress will display student projects presented at the symposium, along with additional Japanese schools.

On Day 1, 13 young designers will make presentations on their school's Foundation curriculum by showing Foundation and senior-level work.

Participation in the IEN Symposium is open to all delegates registered for the Visualogue Congress. There is no registration fee, but a 3,000 Japanese yen (approx. US$ 26) charge will be made on the morning of the event for a Japanese Lunch Box meal for both days.

80 Japanese educators from over 20 major universities across Japan have signed up for this symposium. Those Visualogue Congress participants who wish to participate in the symposium should pre register at the IEN secretariat at education(at) and provide name, name of school, country and email address.
