Audi receives honorary “red dot: client of the year” award

In 2010, for the first time in the history of the red dot design award, the honorary award “red dot: client of the year” is awarded. This award goes to automobile manufacturer AUDI, which this year shone with 16 awards in the red dot award: communication design and the communication design as well as marketing communication of which has received 39 red dots from the competition’s international jury in the past five years. A diverse range of design and brand agencies are behind this success.

Lothar Korn, who has been head of marketing communication at AUDI since 2008, is responsible for the communication of the automobile manufacturer. On 8 December 2010, he will receive the honorary prize from the hands of Professor Dr. Peter Zec, president of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and initiator of the red dot design award. “For many years, AUDI has successfully positioned itself as a premium brand. The brand’s core message ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ (advantage through technology) and the brand values ‘high-quality’, ‘sportiness’, and ‘progressiveness’ are implemented in an exemplary manner in a wide range of media and communication materials,” says Zec, explaining the selection.

Awards presentation on 8 December 2010
The award will be presented to AUDI at the red dot design museum in Essen on 8 December 2010. Moreover, the different design agencies working for AUDI will receive 16 further prizes on this day, among them two prestigious “red dot: best of the best 2010” awards. Besides representatives from the media, business and politics, approximately 1,000 guests from the international design and creative scene are expected at the awards presentation in the European Capital of Culture.

Special exhibition from 9 December 2010 to 9 January 2011
Following the awards presentation, all prize-winning works of the competition will be presented in a special exhibition entitled “Design on stage – winners red dot award: communication design 2010” at the red dot design museum. The exhibition will be open to the general public and on display until 9 January 2011.

After having been awarded the title “red dot: design team of the year” for outstanding product design in 1999, AUDI now for the first time receives the honorary “red dot: client of the year” award for its continuous and above-average achievements in communication design and in the area of marketing communication.

The “international yearbook communication design 2010/2011”, the standard work for communication design, will also be published in time for the awards presentation. In addition to presenting the award-winning works it will contain an in-depth interview with Lothar Korn, head of marketing communication of Audi AG.
