While companies, agencies and communication designers around the world are being invited to register their work for the red dot award: communication design 2011, we are presenting you with a selection of the award-winning works from last year’s competition in this special publication.

Kolle Rebbe /KOREFE was awarded the “red dot: best of the best” 2010 for its packaging design of „STOP THE WATER WHILE USING ME!

KOREFE – Kolle Rebbe Form und Entwicklung was founded in 2006 by Stefan Kolle and Katrin Oeding as an integrated design and innovation agency. Its activities range from corporate identity, corporate design and packaging design to the development of product innovations. A team of designers, strategists and conceptual designers steers the innovation process beginning with a market analysis and ending with naming and design. KOREFE is among the design agencies in Germany with the most awards. Christian Doering is responsible for the art direction of this project.

Stefan Kolle, Katrin Oeding and Christian Doering on
“Typography and product message”:

The reduction to black and white and a hand-made typography not only emphasises the independence of the brand but also its message. Thus the corporate design communicates thrift. Beside the typography there are no other design elements, only a hand-drawn line. It is as easy as the design itself to show environmental awareness: by turning off the water. The product takes the straightest way to communicate this awareness: The “message” became the brand.

red dot: Where and how do you gather information on trends?
Kolle Rebbe/KOREFE:
Everywhere – you always have to keep your eyes open. Inspiration comes from nature, from my deflection and from this moment, now, that I’m sitting here, answering this question.

red dot: What developments do you currently see in your industry?
Kolle Rebbe/KOREFE:
It‘s always about the search of a cross-media idea. Strategy fuses more and more with creation and  creation is also strategy in reverse. It’s not so much about questioning relevance, it’s much more about creating relevance.
red dot: Which of your projects has presented the biggest challenge for you so far?
Kolle Rebbe/KOREFE:
To develop own brands and introduce them onto the market.

red dot: How do you approach new projects?
Kolle Rebbe/KOREFE:
At first have a look at what the competitors are doing, after that understanding the brand. Thereafter it’s all about working out that one special thing which makes this brand really unique. The most important point in doing so is to stick to this conception uncompromisingly.

red dot: What are the qualities a successful communication designer must have?
Kolle Rebbe/KOREFE:
Persistence, common sense and you should be communicative. The trick is to be aware of your own style but to be able to get involved with your clients’ needs at 100 % at the same time.

red dot: What else would you like to learn?
Kolle Rebbe/KOREFE:
Every day as much as possible.
