Decision on the red dot award: product design 2011: Grohe wins “red dot: design team of the year”
Thousands and thousands of products are judged every year as part of the red dot design award. The international jury selects outstanding achievements, gives direction and uncovers trends. But there is one red dot award that stands out from all the others. The “red dot: design team of the year” is a title of honour that is awarded just once every year. As announced today in Düsseldorf, this year’s title goes to a manufacturer whose products allow us to experience water with all of our senses. This year’s award for design team of the year goes to Grohe.
No company or designer can compete to win this unique award. It is awarded for consistently high product design performance as well as to companies that demonstrate a special far-sightedness by designing their own attractive and high-quality products in a way that leads to lasting success for the company. The Grohe designers under the management of Paul Flowers have achieved this feat and have been rewarded with the “red dot: design team of the year” by the red dot design award.
“In an era of globalization, there are times when a company has to prove itself because external circumstances require it”, explains Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, the initiator and CEO of the red dot design award. “And then there are times when a company proves itself by coming up with innovative solutions that nobody expected – not even insiders in the industry. Over the course of its colourful history, Grohe has experienced both, but in the past five years it has launched what can only be described as an innovation offensive, reaching a whole new level of strength in design compared with its competitors. At Grohe, design is a value driver that is given top priority.”
With its head designer Paul Flowers, Grohe has been winning red dot design awards for years, most recently with its digital bathroom “GROHE Digital” for example. Grohe won the “red dot: best of the best” with that product in 2011, marking its fourth time winning that most prestigious award. Grohe has achieved global acclaim for its fantastic bathroom fittings, and the title it has won is in recognition of both the management and the head designer. On 4 July 2011, Paul Flowers will accept the Radius award at the red dot gala in Essen on behalf of his Grohe Design Team. The Radius is the highest-ranking trophy in the major design competition.
