Reason to celebrate: The winner's exhibition in the red dot design museum

"In search of excellence" - the red dot design award is seeking out the best products for 2013!

With 4,515 entries from around 1,800 companies and designers from 58 countries in the year 2012 alone, there can be little doubt of the international significance and reach of the “red dot award: product design”. A new round of the competition, which has a history that dates back to the 1950’s, is about to commence. Designers and manufacturers from all over the world are once again invited to register their well-designed products and thus to join the hunt for the renowned red dot seal of quality.

Whether it’s with an innovative piece of furniture, revolutionary laboratory technology or breathtaking architecture – young and up-and-coming talents as well as established designers are once again invited to demonstrate their know-how and stand out from the masses. There are 19 different product groups in which products can be entered.

Participants will endeavour to win over the international red dot jury with excellent design quality and innovative product solutions. True to the motto of the competition, the globally acclaimed experts on the jury are “In search of excellence” once again in 2013. An evaluation process spanning several days will take place in February 2013, during which the more than 30 experts on the panel will test, discuss and assess each individual product live and in situ in Essen, Germany. Only then will the winners of the product design award be decided.

Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot, says: “I have known for more than 20 years now just what our competition means to the designers and entrepreneurs and how enthusiastically they communicate their success and will celebrate it at our award ceremony. And with good reason. They and their winning products are presented extensively – in our yearbooks, at our exhibitions and in the media.”

All those who submit their products to the international comparison and who are winners in the “red dot award: product design 2013” can look forward to recognition by the international design scene and to a maximum of attention directed toward their attractively designed and contemporary products.  After an exciting competition, the prize-winners will be officially announced at the red dot gala in Essen’s opera house, the Aalto-Theater, on 1 July 2013. Their award-winning products will be on display until 28 July 2013 as part of the spectacular exhibition of winning products “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2011” against the inspiring backdrop of the red dot design museum at the world heritage site of the Zeche Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen.
