Design - consistently at the highest level: Lenovo was chosen as the "red dot: design team of the year 2013"
When it comes to the professional judgment of the latest product designs, the red dot jury proves a lot of endurance: 37 jury members of the “red dot award: product design 2013” had to assess a total of 4,662 entries. A special single award stands out every year, though. It is one of the most coveted awards in the world of design: the appointment for the “red dot: design team of the year”. In 2013, this honorary title, as announced at the Milan Design Week, goes to the Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo for its exemplary design work, which has been internationally successful for decades.
Since 1988, the red dot design award annually honours a design team, which distinguishes itself by a continuously innovative design work that sets standards. The unique distinction no company or designer can apply for, rewards a corporate strategy, by which innovative and high quality products sustainably influence the business success. A claim that the Lenovo Design & User Experience Team satisfies abundantly. For years, Lenovo has impressed the expert jury of the red dot design award with its products and their outstanding design quality. As a reward, it was selected as “red dot: design team of the year 2013”.
Lenovo Vice President Mr Yao Yingjia, Head of Design and User Experience Centre, says: “This historic award means a lot to our Design & User Experience team, as it recognises our consistent innovative and quality design achievements in the past few years. Lenovo is committed to becoming a global leader in the PC Plus era, the era of tablets, smartphones, smart TVs and PCs. To achieve this objective, Lenovo's Design and Users’ Experience Team will continue to apply our seasoned PC experience, entrepreneurial far-sightedness and excellent innovation design, to give our customers products that are reliable, functional, high-performing, easy-to-use, and of course, pleasing to the eye. The `red dot: design team of the year 2013´ award is a great encouragement and inspiration for us to go further, and spare no effort to be part of, or even take the lead, of the global design development and customer experience trends.”
“Lenovo is a company with a truly international approach, a strong in-house design unit and an intense, almost bold focus on quality”, explains red dot initiator and CEO, Prof. Dr. Peter Zec. “In addition, Lenovo has long been successful in the red dot design award. Both in 2012 and 2013, Lenovo gained the highest single award, a “red dot: best of the best”, as well as many red dots since Yao Yingjia has taken lead of the team. He has managed to find a genuine design language that is understood everywhere in the world. His open-mindedness is reflected in unique forms and applications, and also in the use of original materials unseen before in notebooks and tablets. I’m therefore very happy to present Lenovo with the exceptional honorary title “red dot: design team of the year 2013” – and deservedly so!”
The ceremonial presentation of the “Radius”, the most coveted trophy of the “red dot award: product design”, to the design team of the year will be the highlight of the red dot gala on 1 July 2013 in the Aalto-Theater in Essen, Germany. More than 1,200 expected guests from design, business and politics will be present when the Lenovo Design & User Experience Team receives the award on the stage of the glamorous opera house. Afterwards, at the Designers’ Night, a special exhibition of the “red dot: design team of the year” will be opened in the red dot design museum.
