Communication design at its finest in the Red Dot Design Museum
After the international design scene has celebrated the best designs of the year in Berlin in October 2013, a selection of the awarded communication projects will now be presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen: from 12 November 2013 to 5 January 2014 in the special exhibition “Selected works of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2013”.
At the former boiler house of Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, visitors can inform themselves about what is state-of-the-art in international communication design. Trend-setting, inspiring, entertaining: Creative performances which are awarded in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design represent all this and even more. Selected by a jury of renowned experts from around the world, the winning creations are a trend indicator of the industry.
With colourful posters, the exhibition illustrates how fascinating campaigns can be and how to advertise creatively these days. But also courageous topics are thematised impressively. The young talent Mustafa Karakas from Germany stages the topic of women’s rights with his eponymic poster series. He illustrates the diverse dealing with them in different cultures in a visually stunning way: Karakas ostensibly shows graphics of beautiful flowers, which – at second or third glance – have incised wounds, bruising or indicate captivity. For his work, he not only received the Red Dot jury’s appreciation, but also the junior prize of the competition which is endowed with 10,000 euros.
Current communication strategies will also be shown with examples of packaging design projects. The exhibits illustrate that packaging is more than pure protection and means of transport. They can be designed playfully and present their content in a brand new way, tell stories or decorate a home as iconic artwork. In each case, they all are one thing: Clever communication design, which not only scores in front of an international competition’s jury but also in front of consumers.
