Red Dot pays tribute to the best designers and manufacturers of the year: award ceremony, exhibition launch and after-show party on 9 July
All of the big names in the global design scene will convene on the red carpet in Essen on 9 July 2018. On that date, Red Dot will be paying tribute to the best designers and manufacturers of the year, the award winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018. During the glamorous Red Dot Gala, the laureates of the Red Dot: Best of the Best will accept their trophies on stage at Essen’s Opera House. Afterwards, there will be ample opportunity for networking, dancing and celebrating at the Designers’ Night.

Industrial design highlights – Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents two winners exhibitions
From 10 July 2018, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents two new exhibitions. Until 5 August, the best products of the year are showcased in “Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018”. The outstanding achievements of Phoenix Design, the Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2018, can be seen in the exhibition “PHOENIX – First. Now. Next.” until 19 August.

“The Value of Simplicity”: Red Dot Projects presents design exhibition in Beijing
From 27 until 30 September 2018, Red Dot Projects Singapore presents a new exhibition in China: “The Value of Simplicity – Good Design for a better Quality of Life” will showcase around 250 exhibits, which illustrate the principle of simplicity in design and demonstrate the differences between historicism and modernity, craftsmanship and industry.

Title of honour for outstanding design performance – Phoenix Design is Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2018
This year’s title of honour “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year” goes to Phoenix Design with its teams in Stuttgart, Munich and Shanghai. Founded in 1987 by Andreas Haug and Tom Schönherr, the interdisciplinary team with its international gearing has been especially convincing with its consistently innovative, top-notch design achievements.

Only until 15 June, designers, agencies and companies can submit their projects in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2018. One of the 17 categories, in which the creative achievements are put to the test, is “Publishing & Print Media”. Despite the progressive digitalisation, printed publications such as books, calendars and magazines are still very important.

The Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2018 launched at the beginning of March. All those who wish to submit their work and themselves to the scrutiny of the Red Dot Jury have until 15 June 2018 to register for the design competition. In a process spanning several days, 24 experts, including three new jury members, will decide which entries will receive the Red Dot.

At the moment, the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2018 is calling for entries. Until 29 May, designers, agencies and companies from around the globe can submit their works during the regular registration period. All competition entries will be evaluated by the Red Dot Jury with regard to their design quality and creativity. Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award, reveals how the experts make their decision.

This year, companies and designers from 59 countries entered more than 6,300 innovations in the Red Dot Award: Product Design. 69 entries – just 1.1% of all entries – received the top award in the competition, the Red Dot: Best of the Best. The “Red Dot”, which stands for good design quality, was awarded 1,684 times, while 45 objects won an Honourable Mention, which is given to a particularly well-executed aspect of design work.
