Antonio Citterio: dimensions of design

Monday, 27 June 2005

Dimensions of design. For the Romans, the bath was an institution. It was part of daily life to take time to relax on a large scale. Today, the bath is more important than ever, since it is one of the last bastions of relaxation. Free from the demands, the daily hustle and bustle, and the noise of the environment one searches for calmness in the bath – having time for yourself and your body is the “modern luxury”. The Axor Citterio bathtub and washstand combination creates a design of relaxation with large dimensions and newly interpreted transitions.

Philippe Starck: designed power – abundance as a principle

Water does not obey rules. It looks for new ways with all its force. Large rivers such as the Amazon or the Nile constantly create new living spaces by flooding complete areas. As a result of cultivation and embankments water has often lost its force today. The design of the Axor Starck X single-lever washstand mixer by Philippe Starck attempts to model this aspect of water’s ungovernable force and “abundance as a principle” has deliberately been chosen as a design maxim.

The design follows the maxim of “clarity, tension and precision” with the aim to consistently continue this in all the car’s details.
