Title of honour for outstanding design performance – Phoenix Design is Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2018
This year’s title of honour “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year” goes to Phoenix Design with its teams in Stuttgart, Munich and Shanghai. Founded in 1987 by Andreas Haug and Tom Schönherr, the interdisciplinary team with its international gearing has been especially convincing with its consistently innovative, top-notch design achievements.

“Unique strengths and real quality”: three cars awarded with the Red Dot: Best of the Best
During the assessment of the category “cars and motorcycles”, the jury members of the Red Dot Award: Product Design drove the submitted vehicles on the runway of the airport in Mülheim, Germany. Afterwards, the jury members were able to make a profound decision about their design quality. This year, three of the vehicles received the Red Dot: Best of the Best, the competition’s top award: the “Stinger” from Kia, the “720S” from McLaren and the “Ferrari Portofino”.

Chinese design visits the Red Dot Design Museum: new exhibition open
The special exhibition “China Good Design: New Asian Moods and Award-Winning Products” opened to a full house on the evening of 3 May 2018. For the first time, until 3 June the exhibition will put products on show in Germany that won awards in the competition “China Good Design” in the past three years. The roughly 90 exhibits stem from a wide variety of different areas of life, giving an exciting and interesting insight into the state-of-the-art of Chinese product culture.

At the moment, the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2018 is calling for entries. Until 29 May, designers, agencies and companies from around the globe can submit their works during the regular registration period. All competition entries will be evaluated by the Red Dot Jury with regard to their design quality and creativity. Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award, reveals how the experts make their decision.

This year, companies and designers from 59 countries entered more than 6,300 innovations in the Red Dot Award: Product Design. 69 entries – just 1.1% of all entries – received the top award in the competition, the Red Dot: Best of the Best. The “Red Dot”, which stands for good design quality, was awarded 1,684 times, while 45 objects won an Honourable Mention, which is given to a particularly well-executed aspect of design work.
