Title of honour for outstanding design performance – Phoenix Design is Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2018
This year’s title of honour “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year” goes to Phoenix Design with its teams in Stuttgart, Munich and Shanghai. Founded in 1987 by Andreas Haug and Tom Schönherr, the interdisciplinary team with its international gearing has been especially convincing with its consistently innovative, top-notch design achievements.

“Unique strengths and real quality”: three cars awarded with the Red Dot: Best of the Best
During the assessment of the category “cars and motorcycles”, the jury members of the Red Dot Award: Product Design drove the submitted vehicles on the runway of the airport in Mülheim, Germany. Afterwards, the jury members were able to make a profound decision about their design quality. This year, three of the vehicles received the Red Dot: Best of the Best, the competition’s top award: the “Stinger” from Kia, the “720S” from McLaren and the “Ferrari Portofino”.

Chinese design visits the Red Dot Design Museum: new exhibition open
The special exhibition “China Good Design: New Asian Moods and Award-Winning Products” opened to a full house on the evening of 3 May 2018. For the first time, until 3 June the exhibition will put products on show in Germany that won awards in the competition “China Good Design” in the past three years. The roughly 90 exhibits stem from a wide variety of different areas of life, giving an exciting and interesting insight into the state-of-the-art of Chinese product culture.

Once a year, the jury for the Red Dot Award: Communication Design meets. For several days, the 24 international experts evaluate all works which were entered in the design competition. During the evaluation, various aspects are taken into account. These vary depending on the type of project. In addition, due to their experience and respective cultural background, every jury member has his or her own expectations on the competition entries.

For many years, Red Dot is maintaining intensive relationships with Japan. Successful cooperations with designers and institutions from Nippon helped the promotion of outstanding design achievements. The country’s designers regularly prove their know-how in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design, too. In the recent competition, the highest single distinction, the Red Dot: Grand Prix, went to Tokyo.

The high art of the brewery and the high art of packaging come together at the Red Dot Award: Communication Design. Every year, the most exciting packaging solutions are awarded here. In 2017, for example, MillerCoors from the USA, the Paulaner Brewery Group and the Früh Brewery from Germany were honored.

Right on time for the exhibition “China Good Design: New Asian Moods and Award-Winning Products” at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, which is showing a selection of the award-winning products, the international competition “China Good Design” is about to enter its fourth round. Designers and manufacturers from all over the globe can enter their products from 8 April to 29 July.
