Symposium "The Midas Touch" in Munich
Within the framework of the exhibition "simply droog. 10 + 1 years of avant-garde design from the Netherlands", the Haus der Kunst in Munich will hold a symposium titled "The Midas Touch" on May 21, 2004. The lectures and discussions will be held in both German and English.
According to the Greek legend, everything that King Midas touched turned to gold. In the same way, everyday design becomes something special through the designer's touch. The symposium deals with the meaning of this "Midas Touch" and critically investigates the popularity of design in our society. One German and one Dutch expert will speak about the three lecture subjects: "Design and Banality", "Populism and Culture" and "Design – effective or affective". The symposium is organized by the Premsela Foundation for Dutch Design together with the Haus der Kunst.
