"Sommerloch '04" in Karlsruhe

7 days of art, design and philosophy at HfG Karlsruhe – numerous workshops, lectures, concerts and exhibitions between June 14 and 20, 2004 prevent you from going through a creative "summer slump".

The activities comprise an entire spectrum of cultural studies and media science disciplines in theory and practice. The whole school is integrated and converted into an exhibition and event location. The workshops deal with a wide range of subjects: Volker Albus, for example, is looking for installations that make "Summer in the City" bearable: humid, shadowy and refreshing. Laurie Haycock Makela and Ronald Jones investigate the healing landscape design with their "Feel Better Gardens", and Werner Aisslinger invites you to search for design inventions that cause everyday life to fade out with his "Mental Utilities". "How to make a campaign", "Combination of the impossible", "Made in China" and more: the possibilities to bridge the summer slump with an interesting workshop are numerous.

Moreover, many lectures, concerts, parties and a symposium will take place. Among others, Axel Schultes will speak about "The lightness of stone – an archaic modernity?", Nikolaus Hirsch and Michel Müller will lecture about the "Performance of space". Roundabout will present an audio-visual concert of the college, and a spatial sound dance theater will be performed under the title "ichich". The symposium "Art and Insanity" examines whether there is more than just a coincidental relationship between the creative process and the phenomenon of insanity. Within the framework of a tour, professors and students will also offer an overview of their work created during the past few years.
