Exhibition: Bouroullec in Los Angeles

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, USA, presents the exhibition "Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec" from June 27 through October 18, 2004 at the Pacific Design Center.

More than 20 works dating from 1997 to the present will be on display in the exhibition. Reduced forms and multifunctional design – that's what Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are best known for. The furniture and designs they create are usually mobile, flexible and ergonomic. The office system "Joyn", for example, integrates mobile partitions, surfaces and accessories that can be adapted for many different purposes and are ideal for the contemporary workplace.

The two brothers describe many of their designs as "micro-architecture" since the objects are larger than individual pieces of furniture but smaller and more flexible than entire interior designs. What is special is that each of the designs had to live up to the harsh critiques and high standards of each of the brothers.

The exhibition installation was specially conceived by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in order to not only present the individual pieces but also their approach to interior design. There will be an opportunity to speak with the designers during an "Art Talk", a free and informal discussion.

Art Talk with Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, June 27, 3 p.m. at the Pacific Design Center of MOCA.
