Exhibition: "Workshop Bauhaus 1994 – 2004" in Dessau

The Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau (Foundation Bauhaus Dessau) presents its work of the past ten years in the exhibition "Workshop Bauhaus 1994 – 2004" until August 22, 2004.

On the one hand, Historic Bauhaus, and on the other, urbanism – the exhibition has two focal themes. The historic Bauhaus is presented with selected original objects from the historic collection under the title "Bauhaus and City". Among others, originals from Marianne Brandt, Max Bill, Josef Albers, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer will be shown. The issue of the Director's House, destroyed during World War II, and the preservation of the world cultural heritage Bauhaus are also an issue.

Contemporary questions about urbanism form the second focal point of the exhibition. As a "Forum for the Urban", the Foundation investigates urbanism as an international phenomenon. The point is not to find ultimate solutions but to promote and shape developments in their cultural processes. As examples of the process of the working method, the International Bauhaus Course of Lectures, urban development concepts and architectural designs from Ethiopia and China, among others, as well as the International Building Exhibition Urban Reconstruction 2010 in Saxony-Anhalt are offered. These sectors are illustrated through photographs, sketches, plans, models, films, interactive stations and flexible installations. Altogether, the character of today's Bauhaus work is clarified: The Foundation Bauhaus Dessau understands itself as a workshop that enables searching and experimentation in an open atmosphere.
